70 years old and "full of shit".

Well, congratulations on your reaching three score and ten but no, you're not 'full of shit', unless of course you're constipated. What you are or have become, as I see it from your article, is aware of your limitations. That, to me, is a good thing.

It is also one of or perhaps the main differentiator in self understanding between the young and the aged.

There is too much ageism out there already, let's not add to it by demeaning ourselves. Laugh at ourselves, yes but recognise, too, that recognising what we don't know and that what we think we know, we often have wrong - these are the components of the oft mentioned 'wisdom' that age brings.

No, we’re not necessarily wise - even young people can be that. What we are is smarter. We're smarter because we have experienced so much more and little surprises us.

It's also the reason why time now seems to fly by, when a day used to last forever. Young people constantly meet new experiences which causes their minds to give them much attention. Older people need to process much less for they have already met so much previously. The level of effort is what imprints things on our mind.

I've just had my 75th - one I never thought I'd reach. Now I realise that it's because when you're young, old people are invisible, so how can you imagine ever being one?
