A cure for migraine. (response to 'Migraine Who?' by Sweet Honeylu (https://medium.com/the-daily-cuppa/migraine-who-df44640adaf8)
If it actually exists and assists without doing other damage, (as so many medications unfortunately do), then it will be a 'godsend' for those who suffer.
I was one of those for my first 20 years and the sensation was as though my head was exploding inside. I would be unable to focus my eyes on anything, the slightest brightness would be as though someone were shining a searchlight in my eyes and my whole being would be taken over by the commotion going on in my head.
Brightness and heat was what seemed to set it off for me and therefore it destroyed my ability to perform at all well in high school because the school had external windows in every classroom which seemed to set the migraine off for me.
When I was 20 I was on active service in the Middle East where it was immensely hot, (and cold at night) and the sun shone brightly every day, all day. I had no choice but to be there for one must follow orders and that is where I was sent. Before arriving, I think I was more worried of how the migraine might be exacerbated than I was about being shot.
It seems unbelievable, even to me, when I remember those days and that awful experience before I went to the sand and sunshine and sea. During our down time, we would go as a group to the beach and, although I couldn't swim, I would wade into the waves and be carried back into shore and join in games there with my mates. It was always a little on the edge for we had to have a couple of guys standing armed guard always.
Shut up, roger, you're off point again ... yes, well the point is, that after a couple of weeks of relatively regular playing in the surf, I never had a migraine again. As an added bonus, the appalling eczema that I'd had for years, just disappeared - well, at least in the sense that I never had a pimple again, but the scars remain to this day.
So, sorry if this is irrelevant to your readers but your piece reminded me of it and how easily we forget the small miracles that may happen to us once they become distant.
I don't know if cavorting in the surf would help any other migraine or eczma sufferers but even if not, I can recommend it as a great way to enjoy some time with friends and dismiss, pain, threat and fear from your mind, at least for a short time.
Take care. Stay safe. ☮️
