Agreed, though when, how and where did 'uptake' become 'uptick', it is certainly a relatively recent phenomena or at least that's my impression.

Sorry, I'm not 'having a go at you', I just wonder why there is what seems a growing tendency to replace perfectly sound words with convolutions of the same.
