As an 'outsider', i.e. neither a North American nor a North American citizen, I have long struggled with the fact of massive 'blue-collar' support for a man who has cheated the very same, who is unashamedly self-aggrandising and who lives in luxury.

As someone born and raised in an English slum area, but one who knew caring, sharing & compassion from all who lived there, I have never been a materialist nor had anything but distaste and disregard for the British Monarchy and aristocracy and their elitist social set.

Yes, there are millions of working class & disadvantaged Brits who were conditoned to fawn over the Queen and royal pomp and pageantry but I see that, (perhaps wrongly), as something a little different.

I cannot imagine a massive proportion of British disadvantaged and working-class people falling for 'Trumpism' and although I recognise the materialist ethos of North America and the 'Great American Dream' carrot, it still confounds me that so many of a relatively educated populace can be so deceived.

I can only assume that there really is something really wrong and a very deep-seated hurt among millions of citizens there.

However, as much as I have both sympathy for and empathy with those experiencing distress of one sort or another, I cannot accept the vitriol and violence or sheer rebuttal of clear evidence of enormous exploitation and wrong-doing.

So, I wonder, are millions of North American citizens actually too simplistically ignorant to follow rational argument and accept genuine evidence or is there a crippling flaw in North American society which is creating a deep seated rot in what, for many, has long been regarded as a leader of the 'Free World', in spite of its countless military excursions and interferences into the affairs of other nations?
