Lift the tone rather than lowering the level

It is easy to blame Trump supporters for what are Trump’s crimes and what is Trump’s character. To some degree it is also understandable that many do it, including many who have commented here. I certainly understand the frustration, the anger, the incredulity that causes some to believe that to support Trump must be to echo his debauchery, arrogance, demagoguery and criminality.
There is, in all probability, a substantial number of those who will vote for Trump and/or openly support his campaign who do share many of his characteristics and consider his notions of what the nation needs as being exactly that.

However, as Mary* says in the title of her piece, ‘There’s room for compassion here.’

The reality is that almost certainly, the majority of his supporters are disenchanted people who feel that they have been and are continually unfairly disadvantaged by government and decisions made over which they feel, (and probably rightly), that they have no control and that benefit only those who already have ‘too much’.

The majority of the human race is susceptible to believing what they wish to hear and a great proportion of it is gullible. This is particularly true of those who have lost hope to such an extent that they will desperately grasp at almost…
