Christian Nationalism ought to be opposed by any responsible, fair-minded, non-discriminatory, unprejudiced and rational member of society who believes that difference ought to be respected and accepted as opportunity rather than deficit and that diversity is an essential element of modern society and facilitator of collaborative creative enterprise.
Not only do the tenets of Christian Nationalism not align with the Constitution of the USA nor its clear intent at the time of its drafting but they don't even align with the scriptures that support Christianity. Indeed, Jesus Christ himself, I suggest, if he were able to appear right now and witness Christian Nationalism at work, would be surprised and infuriated at how his name is being taken in vain by this group.
The reality is that the USA, as much as most modern, democratic nations and more than most, is a multicultural society and always has been. In spite of its founding being one of white, predominantly Christian colonialism and thus its institutions reflecting that, it is abundantly clear that such a situation has become an anachronism not only for the USA but for its origins in the United Kingdom and in similarly colonised nations such as Australia.
I echo and applaud Dr Watson's article and opinion: "Such arrogant and disingenuous proselytizing has to be combated and reigned in immediately!"
Take care. Stay safe. ☮️
