Excuse me, for I don't wish to quarrel or argue. However, I think your comment misses the point of the article.
Much of what you say is valid, I think, in terms of historical results of invasions and what options may have been or be better for Putin.
You may also be right that Putin hasn't invaded Ukraine simply for resources, that is arguable and, in my view, only one of his likely reasons.
The reason I say that these facts or suggestions miss the point is that, for me, Jessica is speaking of a much wider malaise of which Putin's current actions are really a symptom, not the substantive problem.
In other words, what is happening in Ukraine ought to raise much more important and literally, life or death questions for the human race, as well as a direction for actions that can save us.
As she says, unless we take heed, we will die - I would say, we will accelerate our current process of suicide.
