A 'pinafore' in England is an Apron, though these type of dresses are certainly available & worn - though I've never seen one worn in the way you show.

To me, it is reminiscent of a 'tomboy' style and very similar to the denim overalls that were a fashion, at least where I lived, in the 70's. I always appreciated girls and women in those, too.

But then, I'm someone who favours natural. I'd rather see the real person than one coverd in an artificial facade.
