Hooray to Yorkies everywhere

August 1st. Yorkshire Day.

Yorkshire Rose

A brief shout out to all those who hail from Yorkshire — the real Yorkshire, including all the divisions of it created and/or renamed by that pernicious Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher who did all in her power to segregate and demean the north of England more than it already had been in the past.

I was born in East Yorkshire and as an aged, grizzly, unkempt, unheralded, nonentity, that is my only claim to fame. Thatcher attempted to take that away from me — it is what neo liberals such as Thatcher and Reagan and the rest have always done, of course, — taken away from others — by splitting the greatest county of England and naming a small segment of it, in which I was born and raised, as Humberside.

Well, to her ghost I will say, once again, you didn’t succeed. Yes, your edict may have changed boundaries and names but I am a Yorkshireman and will be or have been always. So turn in your grave old iron woman for where I come from you have no friends and never did.

You and your ilk have been the bane of England and those who supported you are as compassionless and ignorant as are those who now support the misogynistic bully who sullies the name and ethos of the United States.

So, excuse me, fellow Yorkshire people. I didn’t intend to deviate from a simple greeting but I guess I will never get over the audacity of some supposed representatives of the people who, in actuality, represent only themselves and a set of obscene and prejudiced notions.

Have a great Yorkshire Day, none-the-less!
