I agree with your separation of the notion or emotion commonly referred to as 'love'. The expression of difference as 'in love' or 'of love', however, is somewhat clumsy in my view.

'Love', I think that the term has long past reached its use-by date. It is used so carelessly and casually and as often as not, inappropriately.

Romance or romantic 'love' is rarely the bond, care and affection that so many consider it to be, though as you imply, affection may be a part of the connection, at least in the beginning. So, I certainly agree that "Romance and Love are not synonyms", I simply go somewhat further in considering how 'love' is now a misleading term, even if it once wasn't.

The notion that 'love' can be applied to material possessions, food, gadgets and so forth is actually an example of how loosely the term is now used.

It is past time that the human race grew into 'adult-hood' and used its individual and combined intellect to replace poor, inadequate or misplaced 'labels' for human feeling, behaviour and thought.

Empathy is what actually entails the qualities that are commonly misleadingly labelled as 'love'. Sadly, empathy is a much rarer condition.

Some time ago, I wrote an article about this misuse or redundant use of the term 'love'. It is entitled: Love - I'm not so sure and, should anyone be interested, is on Medium at: https://medium.com/@nonsibicunctis/love-im-not-so-sure-c9f0a28c1bd8

Thanks for your article but, no, you don't 'love' me and cannot for you know little to nothing about me or about most others who may read the article. I don't say that in a churlish way but simply in the context of what I've written. I do accept that we can care for all of humanity or any number of people but that is something else, more to do with respect, human dignity, equity and equality, than it is about affection.

Take care. Stay safe. ☮️
