I don't disagree, in essence. However, my own experience of Macs and of how others feel about them suggests something more.
Most, (I think), Mac owners get much more attached to and appreciative of their machines as part of an overall ethos and level of functionality and positive user experience that causes them to stay with or often change to Macs once they've used one.
So, from that point of view, I think that the Mac hardware is much more than a tool. I've had Apple machines since the Apple II and brand PC's since the days of *dos. I've never felt affection for one of those other machines, regardless of how good it may have been.
Perhaps I'm stupid or irrational for feeling attached to a computer. If so, then so be it. :-)
