I don't know Emma in any personal sense and probably never will.

What I do know it that there are people who are "successful" and "wealthy" that I dislike intensely and whom I will criticise. These are people who have gained their advantage by causing disadvantage of others. They are those whose arrogance & demagoguery causes hardship and misery to others in our world but for whom they don't care and treat with disdain. As long as there is some gain for themselves, they will lie, cheat, manipulate and dispossess.

Judging by what I've seen of her in media interviews, on the court, read in biographical pieces and other informed commentary by people who are her colleagues or who do know her personally, and what I've witnessed of her body language and heard her say, Emma is a very genuine, caring and realistic young woman.

Success is not wealth and power but a love of life and willingness to accept its ups and downs with equanimity and resilience. Equally, hard work is not just defined by a strict, virtually continuous regime of toil, training, maintaining a fanatical desire to be 'the best' or disdaining fun, other pursuits, relaxation and replenishment, alternative interests or remembering that feeding one's psyche with refreshing and warming experience is just as essential.

If Emma never wins another Grand Slam nor performs at the highest level, as long as she has a worthwhile, challenging but satisfying life that gives to herself and others and builds her character as a person of worth, that is more than enough.

Those critics who choose to demean this young woman are almost certainly, with few exceptions, those who have never achieved the degree of maturity, equanimity and humility that Emma has displayed. Not only that but I doubt that many, if any of them showed even a hint of those attributes at such an early age as has Emma.

The World is a beautiful place. There is much to admire. What is least so tends to be the actions of humanity. It seems that some human beings can only derive satisfaction when demeaning or harming others, whether that be by criticism or with bullets and bombs.

Instead of demeaning Emma Radacanu, those critics ought to switch their focus to analysing their own motives and contribution to society. I strongly suspect that what drives them is that, inside, they want Emma, they want a Porsche, they want $$$ and they resent that someone so young appears to 'have it all'.

Their response is to attack. They fail to see that what their desires are driven by false reasoning and what they actually dislike or even hate is some unconscious knowledge that such is the case, i.e. self-hate. I don't find pity to be an endearing emotion but I do feel sad for them. They really do need to think again. Looking for positives to praise and admire rather than negatives to shout and deride would be a good start.
