I find comments are valuable thought provokers and very often give me ideas for posts. That's a good thing.

On the other side of the coin, because I'm a spontaneous, in the moment, character, I perhaps far too often write a long comment that might better have been written as an article in its own right.

However, I have to admit that my impression is that whilst I have been criticised for 'writing novels' by those who are disturbed by what I've written, overall my impression is that those who read my comments do value them and thus there is often increased engagement among others about other implications or elements of the original content.

So, yes, for me comments are good. The only ones I actually dislike are those that are simply abusive, particularly when, so often, they come from others who rarely if ever have contributed anything themselves.
