I tend to think so, too, though I know that having already had access to them, there are things I would miss.

However, I do remember the introduction of the first mass-market vacuum cleaners, washing machines, spin dryers, electric irons, transistor radios, electronic calculators, bankcards, ATM's, single staffed buses, (no conductor, driver takes money) or you use a machine, and more.

I also remember that much, if not most of this technology was described as labour saving and that it would make life easier, reduce working hours and provide more leisure time for family and friends.

Huh!

We now work longer hours than ever. We waste enormous amounts of money on gadgets and devices that we could well do without. Probably the majority of 2 parent families, (I don't have the figures) have both parents at work and etc.

In addition, there are many much more serious effect on our lives, such as the Internet being used as an excuse to close libraries. The fact that research is showing that greater and greater numbers of children are unable to write by hand. Credit cards giving us the illusion that we have much more disposable income than we do and thus making it easier to fall into debt.

Privacy being virtually impossible to protect. False information both accidental (misinformation) and intentional (disinformation) being much more easily spread. A new form of crime increasing continuously as a result of online fraud.

... Not to mention (but I will) the ability to kill at will from hundreds or thousands of miles away at the touch of a button.

Get the picture?

O.K. I'll shut up.

Take care. Stay safe. ☮️
