In my view, your views are pertinent and correct. That Trump, given his appalling character record, could ever garner enough votes to be elected to the highest office in the land, to me, represents a savage indictment on the intellect & morality of those who made it possible.

That, after his behaviour whilst holding the presidential office, he continues to be a contender for re-election only adds insult to injury. That his ignorant and populist fan base is still strong is sad enough but that the Republican Party condones his standing for election suggests that it no longer ought to be considered worthy of representing & governing the people of the USA.

I have to wonder, now, about the potential for major discord, disruption - even armed conflict. If Trump is convicted on any of the many charges against him and sentenced to a prison term, bizarrely, this does not prevent him from holding the POTUS office if he is elected. - What happens should that situation eventuate? Will he govern from prison? Will he be able to use his election to pardon himself? Whatever is the case, how will the intelligent, caring, rational and reasoning citizens of the USA react to a man clearly responsible for supporting armed insurrection in the attack on the Capitol, once again holding the highest office in the nation, with all its implications?

Over my 76 years I have witnessed all manner of political intrigue, brilliant leaders & dismal ones, good times and bad times, major crises & major achievements but I never, ever, in my wildest imaginings envisage the horrific picture that now haunts my mind.
