Independent voters, not so much but then, does such really exist?

One would have thought that the conviction would be likely to 'cement' those who have accepted Trump's bluster and lies about 2020 being a steal and all of these proceedings against him being a 'witch-hunt', for most of them would see these convictions as having been rigged - despite the evidence being very much to the contrary.

However, what is saddest of all about the impact, (or not), of this verdict - which in any case could be overturned on appeal - is the resounding silence of Republican members of Congress and the Senate. I was and am appalled that the GOP rallied so completely behind Trump but could understand that for many it would be self-interest in wanting to retain their own seats and/or see the Party win.

The part that saddens me, though, is that as much as I don't like right-wing ideology, perhaps naively, I don't like to tar everyone with the same brush. I did believe that a conviction would be more than as least a significant minority of Republican members would be prepared to accept. It seems, right now, that I was wrong and that moral sensitivity doesn't exist in the GOP of today. If that is truly the case, then that, in my view, ought to be extremely distressing for all Americans, even those who are rusted on conservative, right-wing ideological believers.
