Not one of your better posts Caitlin. Accuse me of platitudinous comment if you will but "two wrongs don't make a right".

I agree that there are massive problems with the US electoral system, as there are with that in Australia, where I currently reside. There is no doubt that we need drastic change and that supposed "democracy" is on-the-nose for good reason.

However, that such is the case and that it is right to call it out is not evidence that such is not the case in other nations such as Nicaragua. Nor does it support the claim that there is no opposition in the US.

The sorts of bald generalisations made in this piece destroy any credibility for the argument it makes, because they are no more than opinions and assertions with no real evidence to support them.

There is no doubt in my mind that the majority of politicians are more about their own aggrandisement and that of their friends, donors and those with similar ideology.

Similarly, I have no doubt that socialisation, i.e. that which our schooling system is largely about, (as opposed to 'education', of which it achieves very little), is the major factor in the relatively blind acceptance and mistaken belief that western democracies are really the only nations that have 'God on their side' and know truly what are positive values and operate according to them.

However, you belittle debate as to the teaching of Critical Race Theory as, "irrelevamt marrative fluff", when it is precisely the introduction and teaching, (in a real sense), of such concepts and the critical thinking that they encourage and sometimes even inspire, that will do most to change the system that is so despised in your piece.

I am sure that you could write a much more balanced and useful article on the merits or otherwise of the US electoral and political systems and the hypocrisy and blatant lies of much of the rhetoric emanating from both the establishment and the populist movement commandeered by Trump.

I think that if you did so, it would be a much more useful exercise than this, which only models more of precisely what produces the environment against which you rail.
