Of course, just as others, you must do what your own conscience dictates. However, I suggest that the evidence is very much that most people seeking refuge in another country do not feel the same way. It is a natural instinct for human beings to seek to survive, not to stay where they have an immense struggle simply to survive or, even worse, a very definite chance of being killed at the hands of those who choose to hate their existence for whatever reason.

However, my point was that the very notion of 'illegal immigration' is a dubious one, at best. In many cases, there is no illegality involved and even where there is, there are ample extenuating circumstances for most involved.

I firmly believe that the vast majority of people have a connection with their home country, whether it is by birth or by nature of where they have grown and lived and have family and friends and understanding of the culture, etc.

For me, the claim made so often by those who are prejudiced against refugees is that they leave their home countries just to gain advantage of better opportunity in whatever country they seek to enter. That, in the view of the prejudiced supposedly shows that they don't deserve refuge.

Even if this were true, which of course it is not, isn't seeking a better, safer way of life something that all or at least the vast majority of people want for themselves and their families and seek to achieve? So how can this be right for a resident but wrong for someone seeking to join them?

So, I apologise if I have misunderstood what you were attempting to impart with your poem. For me, although so far I have never had to move from home because of life threatening persecution, I have had to move from home because of other reasons.

Would I prefer to die in what I still regard as 'home', if I regard anywhere as such? Yes, I would but it will probably not happen because I can't afford what it would cost to move back there.

I think that many immigrants would wish to do the same but will be unable to do so. I wouldn't know if I a right or what the percentages may be. However, I doubt that many would share your choice and choose to die where you are rather than risk escape from persecution. Indeed, and meaning no disrespect for I don't know your circumstances and it may indeed already have happened to you, I suspect that in such a position, you may not assert that view so strongly.

Take care. Stay safe. ☮️
