Oh, I would have thought you were capable of a somewhat better response than that.
People are capable of all manner of feelings, behaviours, motivations, kindness, perfidy and etc. That, in itself, has nothing to do with religion.
The point is that religion provides an excuse for the perfidy. It encourage hypocrisy, elitism and division. Far from bringing them together it conditions them to division.
One can understand that early humanity could readily have believed and taken to belief in mythical entities because much of the natural world was a mystery to them.
Today, such is not the case. I recently saw video of a woman in Turkiye who'd lost her family and her home as a result of the earthquake. She said words to the effect that, "We pray that God will see us through." How ludicrous. Believing as she does, it must be her 'God' who caused the disaster and who could have prevented it. - Yet now she expects that 'God' to fix things!
Ah, but of course, this 'God' only operates in a compassionate way - all else is caused by humanity: disease, deformity, torture, paedophilia, slavery, murder and etc. - and why? - because EVE - a woman, no less, ate an apple. So, of course, 'God' has to be a 'HE' and women are always the lesser sex, even the cause of perfidy committed by human beings.
Not, of course, that I am saying anything new. Much more astute people than I realised this long ago:
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
