I do agree that the young tend to be 'early adopters' but it is also true that it is the systems and conditioning of older people that is most responsible for producing the products and, perhaps more importantly, the ethos of materialism and acquisition that drives their consumption.
It is also true that more recent generations are exhibiting much more consciousness of major issues and acting for change. Their increasing rejection of cars and move to bicycles and walking is an example.
Whether the young contribute more to waste than the older, it would be good to know. I doubt it. However, waste is certainly a problem but modern electronic devices generally are much more recyclable than were older ones - though I do agree that built-in obsolescence is unfortunate, however that is really a separate issue.
