One has to wonder why it was deemed necessary to create a fictional affair when there were clearly many actual ones. Indeed, as fascinating and highly informative as i find this well written article, what bothers me is the amount of attention it suggests that the film gives to Rustin's gender, (and that of other activists), as compared with the definitive actions he took. If, as reasonable people suppose, I think, that gender should not be an issue, why does it continue to be raised out of proportion to other characteristics of a person?
