So readable, flowing and excellent introductory sentence that stimulates curiosity and sets the scene.

The flow, so good, beckoning the reader on into the story, just as the red-winged birds did to the family.

The dialogue was so natural and well constructed, I admire how you integrated it - I find dialogue so difficult to master.

All in all, an imaginative yet very realistically connected short story. One of which to be very proud, in my view - I'd love to write something as good.
