Thank you, Jase. A reasonable stance, i think, certainly an understandable one for someone who experienced anything of the National Socialist era in Germany.

I expect it to be the opinion of many more than your father, including many that have never suffered extreme authoritarianism.

However, I consider the question is still one worthy of substantial & objective consideration. In terms of your father's view, not least because the Nazi leadership were masters of propaganda and initially, operated very much as do the modern democracies to which I referred.

In short, the transition from insidious and largely disguised control can very quickly and even suddenly become fully blown and open autocracy or dictatorship.
