Thank you, Sarah.

I mentioned religion because it has much to do with why women have been and still are treated so badly.

It would take too lengthy an explanation than would be appropriate here but notions of creation and Adam and Eve, the domination of the Church and its allying with Monarchs and other rulers, which facilitated its making the 'rules' for society and holding sway over what is 'moral' and what is 'immoral' are major factors in bringing about men's fear of women and their attempt to dominate them.

If you are interested in the views of some female authors who are far better able to explain than can I, I suggest some excellent reads below:

Armstrong, Karen. A History of God.(1993)

Armstrong, Karen. The Gospel according to woman. (1986)

Caplan, Paula J. The myth of women's masochism. (1985)

Crimes against women: Proceedings of the International Tribunal. ed. D Russell & N. Van de Ven (1976)

Ford, Clementine. I don't: The case against marriage. 2023

Moran, Caitlin. How to be a woman. (2011)

Wold, Naomi. Fire with fire.(1993)

Clementine Ford's book is a good place to start, though all of them are very worthwhile reads for anyone who is interested in women's role in society, past and current, as well as how it became what it is and how despite some changes, far too much remains the 'norm'.

Take care. Stay safe. ☮️
