Thanks CharlesN. I do understand what Apple is doing and, no, I can't afford to pay its prices for maximum internal storage, even when that's possible.

My point was just that, ie. the standard internal storage on Apple computers is far too small & it ought to be far greater at a reasonable, not exorbitant cost, particularly now that it is virtually impossible to modify a Mac once its purchased.

I also understand that this is not all of Apple's making. Much of the problem, in my view - and I stress my lack of technical knowledge - is 'bloatware'. It seems to me that greater & faster capacity processors and memory prices have dropped enormously, coders no longer care too much about minimalising and producing efficient code. It seems that almost all software has bloomed in size out of all proportion with what it is intended to accomplish.

I started my use of computers in the days of Apple II's, Amstrads, Commodores & so on which often had memory measured in kilobytes rather than megabytes and both operating systems & applications that would fit on a 5.25 or 3.5 floppy disk.

Indeed, I still have a working Apple SE which can produce quite acceptable work in common areas - though, obviously, not with the finesse, speed or versatility of more modern hardware & software.

I apologise - I'm long-winded. I just think that perhaps our developers, as brilliant as they may be, ought to put some effort and their innovative creativity into a more minimalist approach and aim to create not only powerful software but efficient & elegant software that is a model for sound and effective coding, without waste & redundancy.

Yes, that's only my, perhaps ignorant, opinion. I don't mean to denigrate any of those who code and produce the software that allows us to do so much. I just believe that they are capable of much better.
