The race among the tech giants is not dependent nor created by AI but rather AI has simply become another aspect of it.
Yes, it seems likely that AI will become "a significant determinant of the future innovation landscape." However, that is all the more reason, (in my view), why progress ought not to be made 'helter skelter', particularly when what drives much of it is mostly profit.
It is already evident that AI has many failings. I'm sure that many more, as yet unimagined, (at least by most), will also appear. If others disagree, they might wish to consider the current threat to the very existence of the planet brought about largely by humanity's 'innovations' and 'desirable' products, without consideration of the implications of their use beyond the immediate or short term, particularly where profit has been the driver.
