The year isn't blamed.
The article outlines 'mistakes', poor decisions, ignorance, power imbalances, inequities and etc. that existed or took place in 2021. These came about from the attitudes, behaviours & motivations of people. Sadly, we don't appear to have learned from them because there is every indication that they will continue in 2022.
As a 'for instance', I have several times tweeted that, before wealthy nations give booster shots (other than where it is immediately critical to save a life), these nations ought to ensure full vaccination of the majority world nations that are mostly hampered by poverty & have low or nil vaccination rates. - I have not received a single comment, retweet or like to any of those tweets.
Perhaps that says nothing but it is interesting that if I poke fun at a politician or satire a sporting hero and etc., there is almost always reaction of one sort or another.
Makes me wonder about how selfish the bulk of the population may be - even if they don't mean to be or don't realise it because our social conditioning is so strong.
Sadly, it seems that this conditioning even stands in the way of real self-interest for without worldwide protection this virus will. persist.
So, we need articles such as this one to be put in front of every literate person in every wealthy nation, particularly politicians, big pharma executives, investors, and influencers, in order that we can provoke some recognition that it serves even the interests of the mercenary to vaccinate everyone first. If that doesn't happen, boosters won't be of much use for long because the virus will continue to mutate.
