What a clear, articulate, informational, emotional, sensitive, autobiographical and yet universally truthful comment on social inequity, conditioned behaviour, childhood vulnerability and the not unusual difficulty of parents and children relating to and understanding one another, let alone empathising with another.
It speaks much to your perseverance, at least unconscious self-belief, capacity to recognise and sieze opportunity and to overcome the many pitfalls that life may thrust upon us.
Although a white male, I can relate to and empathise with much in this piece and it improved my day to read it. The only discomfort it caused was in its reminding me of how I am so far from embracing the qualities of those I admire, such as yourself.
