Yes, for me, this seems to be virtually the only way I can write - stream of consciousness - except for if I'm engaged in some formal need.

My interests are eclectic so I find that I write more easily by responding to what others have written than to initiate. I'd like to change that, I think, but I'm not sure how to do it. Most of the writers that I see with large followings appear to write on a particular theme, I guess that is targeting a particular audience.

Perhaps my audience is small because, as am I, they too tend to bounce around - if you'll excuse the expression.
